Famous recent local residents have included the musician Paul Weller and the comedian and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig (and the odd notorious criminal who we would prefer not to name!).
Eric Clapton went to St Bede's School in Send. Some of his family are still in the area and his young son, who died in a tragic accident, is buried in Ripley churchyard.
Robson Green lives in nearby village, and can often be seen in the area.
