Philip Hammond, MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, lives in Send. In October 2011 he changed positions in David Cameron's cabinet from Transport Secretary to Secretary for Defence, following the resignation of Liam Fox.
Famous recent local residents have included the musicians Paul Weller (The Jam) and Anthony Phillips, ex Genesis guitarist; and the comedian and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig.
Eric Clapton went to St Bede's in Send when it was a secondary modern school. Some of his family are still in the area and his young son, who died in a tragic accident, is buried in Ripley churchyard.
