Send First 50th Celebrations

Send Church of England First School 50th Celebration will be held on Saturday 12 July 2008 between 1-6pm. Family tickets will be £5.00 for 2 adults and 2 children (under 16). Please visit our website at www.sendfirstschool.ik.org.

For Send First School, 2008 is a momentour year. At the start of the Autumn term in September, the school will celebrate it's 50th Anniversary. As far as can be established, the doors opened to local children between the ages of four and seven in early September 1958 and very quickly flourished.

In July 2007, Mrs Sue Springall retired after nearly 25 years of Headship. Mr Simon Hobbs replaced her in September of last year and it is under his leadership that the school is now looking to the future.

In celebration of fifty years, the Governing Body and PTA are joining forces to hold an alumni event later this year. It is to be a combination of the annual summer fayre and an opportunity to look at different decades in education from the perspective of the child.

With that in mind, we need help from pupils past and present. If you were a pupil at Send as a child or you have family or friends who were, it would be wonderful if you could provide us with memories of your times there.

It maybe a special trip away or lifelong friendships. You may have old photos, or better still, items of old uniform or school books. It could be that certain teachers could spring to mind - who knows.

The day is intended to be a trip down memory lane for both young and old alike. Amongst the attractions on offer will be a climbing wall, children's storyteller and live band. There should be a petting farm for the youngsters and a Formula 1 simulator for the more adventurous amongst us. A hog roast will satisfy the biggest of appetites as will cream teas and Pimms. The highlight of the day is hoped to be a "promises" auction.

As far as the history of the school is concerned, the school hall will be transformed into a look back at Send First School through the last five decades. Each of the classes at school will be given a decade to represent and the children will be dressing in the style of the time! The event is intended to be an opportunity for the entire community to come together and relax in the heat of the summer sun.

Please make contact through the school office on 01483 223464 if you can help in any way. We will be more than happy to come and talk to you.
