Send Family Link

A registered charity providing support and services for families visiting women in custody at HMP Send, with a particular focus on children with a mother in prison. Our aims are to reduce the emotional stress of visiting a loved one in prison and to help families maintain relationships during a prison sentence.

We are in need of volunteers on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons to help run our tea bar in the prison Visits Hall, and to help provide play activities for children visiting the prison. We also need volunteers to help us build our links with the community (e.g. by designing displays), and to help maintain our small garden at the Visitors’ Centre, located outside the prison.

For more information contact Alison Drew, Volunteer Co-ordinator, on 01483 471090 or by e-mail at sendfamilylink@btconnect.com.

Walking and Rambling Club in Send
Through Parish Plan Questionnaire responses and discussion at the Parish Plan Open Day last November, over 150 people said they would welcome a Walking and Rambling Club in Send.

The Parish Plan Group is very keen to encourage this activity and, and conscious of the numerous organisations in Surrey that already support walking and rambling, have already put together information about them on the Send website www.sendvillage.org. It is likely however that the option of joining other groups may not be practical or desirable for many of the local people expressing interest in this activity – and the search is on for people who are interested in starting a Send-based Club.

If you would like to help establish the Club please email lparkerpicken@yahoo.com or come along and meet her at the Annual Parish Meeting. The lighter nights are now with us. Let’s try and get this Club established soon so that we can explore our lovely local countryside together.
